When I wrote the scenario of two starting pitchers going down in the first month of the season I never expected that you would see Doc and the number five guy go down. Thankfully, both will come back this season. I took the real life event of “LC”, Larry Christenson breaking his leg on a charity bike ride and the all too often occurrence of a veteran pitcher never getting loose in Spring Training and then the arm or shoulder not responding well to frigid temperatures in the Norhteast to set the stage for Average Joe’s try-out. Listening to Rueben Amaro Jr, The Phillies GM after Doc’s diagnosis was deja vu with the GM in Phantasy Baseball. Good news though in the book the team rebounds from the adversity early in the season and plays inspired ball. I’d love to see it this year with my team.
